Tequila Totems, 2020

Earthenware, glaze, cement and steel

Sizes variable (200cm height)

Allman uses individually glazed earthenware forms and constructs them into totemic structures to comment on the prominence and sacredness of alcohol in contemporary Australian society. Alcohol plays a large part in our rituals; it features in our celebrations and festivities, ranging from sporting events, to weddings and gallery openings, all are celebrated with alcohol.

Annette’s art process was inspired by the Mexican tradition of the Clase Azul tequila bottles, which are beautiful, unique and painted by hand.
